We start the show with a couple more uses for plastic bottles, carrying on from episode 37.
This week’s topic is mushrooms. Mushrooms aren’t plants, and have different requirements, but some can easily be grown indoors or in the garden.
In the UK, you can get a good selection of mushroom spawn from Seeds of Italy, who also supply truffle trees and mushroom logs.
Mycologue is an online shop for all things mushroomy, including books and DVDs, and kits for growing mushrooms on toilet rolls.
The Organic Gardening Catalogue has a selection of mushroom spawn and logs, and dowels for impregnating your own logs.
If you’re in the US then check out this article from Mother Earth News, which gives more information on growing your own mushrooms and lists several US suppliers.
On Friday 16th November I will be releasing a special edition of the AKG to support the BBC Children in Need appeal. In the run up to the show I will also be writing articles and blog posts on the same subject. If you have any stories, or hints and tips, about growing edible plants from pips and stones, then send me an email and I will include them in the show.
