A fruitful day

Mongolian gooseberry

Not all of the fruit bushes I bought in Woolworths in January 2007 survived. Some deaths were definitely my fault, some possibly not.

Sunday was a day that needed some improvement, and so I bought myself a new plant (£2.99 from Woolworths). This is the Mongolian gooseberry, Actinidia arguta Issai, also known as the mini kiwi. Apparently it’s hardier and less rampant than the standard kiwi, with smooth-skinned and smaller fruits. I have potted it up and put it in the Grow Dome for it to settle in.

Sowing seeds

I have also been sowing some seeds. The big container at the front is Whippersnapper tomatoes (from the HSL). On the right is Gartenperle tomatoes (a smaller container because I discovered there were only 5 seeds left in the packet) and on the left are Clementine pips that hubby found whilst munching through the contents of the fruit bowl.

The maximum temperature in the Grow Dome yesterday was 24°C.
The overnight minimum was -5°C.
