Plan B(ean)

The soy beans that I sowed at the beginning of the month have not germinated. I don’t know why – it might be that the overnight temperature in the Grow Dome is too low, or they might have been too dry at critical moments. Or the seed might be duff. I recently visited the same garden centre that I bought these seeds in last year, and the indoor area is way too warm for storing seeds. That’s one advantage of buying seeds mail order – there’s no excuse for them not to have been kept properly.
Anyway, on to plan B. Rather then just re-sow I am going to try germinating the seeds in one of my sprouting jars. I’ll soak them overnight and then drain them. Then they’ll get rinsed every day until they start to germinate (or I decide they’re not going to). Assuming that they germinate, I can then carefully plant them out.

Thanks Nancy. Unfortunately the seeds rotted before they sprouted. So we’re already on to plan C – buying some viable seeds fresh next year!
