Planning
I’m not very good at gardening planning (which is why I called in an expert to cover it on the AKG).
But this year I really want to make an effort to be more realistic with the garden, in the hope that it will then be more successful. If I concentrate my efforts on the things I have planned to grow, then they should do better than if I continue in my previous ‘scatter gun’ approach.
So I have made a rough plan. I have an idea what is going to grow in which bed, and a sowing list for the spring/ summer period.
January
Strawberries. I sowed three different sorts in my plug plant trainer on 19th January. Some of both the hybrids (Sarian F1 and Florian F1) have now germinated. The alpine strawberries haven’t come through yet.
February
Calabrese. Tiara F1, sown 9th February. They germinated last night.
Peppers. Trifetti and Soror Sarek (HSL), Yankee Bell and Sweet chocolate (Real Seeds) and Topepo Rosso sown 15th Feb.
Undercover carrots. Paris Market sown in the Grow Dome 25th January. No signs yet, so might need to re-do them.
Tomatoes. Gartenperle and Whippersnapper sown on Feb 18th. Yellow Submarine and Golden Yellow Queen sown on 6th March.
Marigolds. TBS
March
Dwarf French beans.
The first of the ongoing lettuce/ salad leaf sowings.
Radishes. For the seed trial.
Leaf beet.
Strawberry spinach.
Goldenberries.
Achocha.
Parsley.
Sorrel.
Marigolds.
Banana shallots.
April
Outdoor carrots.
Watercress.
Purple sprouting broccoli.
Courgettes/ squash.
Spring/ Welsh onions (successional sowing).
Watermelon.
Passionflower.
Pepino.
Tree tomato.
Mexican gherkins.
Tomatillo.
Peanuts.
Liquorice.
Sweetcorn.
Marigolds.
Nasturtiums.
May
Climbing French beans.
Soy beans.
Peas.
Leeks.
I don’t know whether I will manage all of that, but this is the current plan. I’m going to try very hard not to add anything to it. But you know how it is with plants….
